Bienvenu a Paris!
Day 1 in a wonderful city! After a distant look to Montmartre we took a little walk to the old Opéra de Paris. Afterwards we went to Place de la Concorde, where you can see the famous obelisk of Luxor, surrounded by lovely fountains. Due to the still cold weather they were not operating – another reason to come back in summer! Of we went through the Jardin des Tuileries in the direction of the well known Louvre. What an amazing and inpressive building! Despite the occasional rain we got a good look at the Pyramide du Louvre.
From the Pont des Arts, we had a wonderful view of the Ile de la Cite – and a rainbow! Next, we walked over Pont neuf, where lovers show their love with an unimaginable amount of locks! Not far away, one can see the first public clock of Paris on the clock tower of the Conciergerie. A masterpiece of mechanics and gold.
Next stop, Hotel de Ville, heavenly decorated with statues showing us not only the beauty of ancient architecture, but also beautiful decorations all around. One more time we crossed the Seine to pay our tribute to la Cathedrale Notre Dame de Paris. Because of the holy days of eastern, there was almost no light in the cathedral what gave it a very special athosphere! I’m curious how it looks on normal days.
We took a tour around the cathedral and one last look from the other side of the river. I think I even spotted the hunchback 😉
Last stop today was the Fountaine Saint-Michel with the statue of the griffin.
